Hey guys,

The msg-5 5 speed 4x4 which is interchangeable with the msg-4 4 speed 4x4 is well know and that it's just longer. But are the transfer cases interchangable? Because I'd like to not have to buy a new transfer case but I haven't been able to find out if anyone knows the answer yet. I've been looking at trannies from an 85 trooper for my 79 luv 4x4 and I was thinking about whether or not the transfer cases are interchangable. It seems like they would be but I don't know. in case you dont know............
the 84/85 troopers have a MSG-4 speed 4x4 trans with a 1.9L gas engine only.
the only years the trooper/pup had the MSG-5 4x4 trans was 86/87 with 2.3L 2.2L the bell can be swapt if its from a 2.2L T\D

after that its the bigger MUA trans.

Okay, that answers another question I had about which transmissions are needed according to the engine and year. But what about the transfer case. Can it be swapped between the 4 speed and the 5 speed? It would be nice if it could so I can save some money. Thanks for the info already!
