All,
I have the strangest problem with my truck. I have a 1980 4x4. The truck ever since I have owned it has a loud roar in every gear at a certain rpm. I don't know the RPM yet as I haven't hooked a tachometer up to it. I don't believe it is the engine, because it made the noise with the engine that came in the truck and the current 78 1.8l that is installed. The transmission is the same. Rear end is the same.
It will make the noise while sitting still if you rev the engine hard, so I don't think it is tires or drive shaft.
There is no fan clutch. I have the 78 fan installed which is just bolted to the engine and spins all the time. I still have the 80 radiator and fan shroud installed. I have the 2 inch body lift installed, but it made the noise before this was installed. I have the original carpet in the cab if that matters for deadening vibration.
My buddy thinks it is just reverberation in the cab when the engine hits a certain frequency, but my dad's luv truck never made this noise, and the 78 I took the engine out of didn't make the noise. I searched the forum, but didn't have much luck finding a similar complaint.
Was wondering if anyone has any suggestions or has experienced this before?
Thanks.
