So... the thing is that i got this spark plug when i took it out it took the treads with it(i guess they were really attached to eachother) so a co-worker of mine says hey i got a tap for a heli coil, i could tap that thing out for you.... well needless to say he tapped the hole.... WITH THE WRONG TAP, the thread pitch was off and to top it off, after realizing the mistake put some f*&@%* JB Weld on the hole with the "new" spark plug and thought he would get away with that, well 2 things first off; that didnt work; it solidified, crumbled(i think due to gas getting to it)and with the WRONG tap nicked a valve, thus bending it just enough not to close, so when i go to turn the engine over i hear a clunk, a high pitched whining noise and for the grand finally i get to see some flames shoot out the carb(intake valve is stuck open).... anyway i got a bent valve, f'd up spark plug hole, and subsequent headache.... As some of you may know, i posted that i was parting the thing out, i dont really WANT to per-say, but the wife asid you are never gonna be able to get that thing going, we will never be able to afford it, so i say alright your prolly right.... but the more i look at it the more i think god damn i wish i could get that thing fixed, all i need is a head gasket, intake valve, and the hole filled in and re-tapped... so since i never got any real bites on selling anything from it and the things that may be wanted from it are very few, I have decided to keep it so without further adue, i ask of you all dose anyone know of a place i can get a really cheap head gasket, aluminum welding rod(i got a small torch that can do the trick), and an intake valve for the LUV?

thanks (sorry bout the rant, i just had to get that off my chest...)
Dustin

You won't be able to get the rod to stick with a torch. You could take it and have it welded and then get it tapped...

thats what i was told... but i found info of people using propane 8O to weld aluminum with some kind of rod, it says you just need to heat the metal up that you are going to be welding to and also to make sure you use a stainless steel brush to get all of the oxidation and crud off the aluminum before you start welding it.... ever head of anythign like this? i think the site was alumi-weld.com or somethign to that effect...

thanks
Dustin

p.s. my reservations about a shop welding it includes; machine shops say if you want the hole done we will have to go through all the valves and basically rebuiild the head to get the hole done, even though i have told them i had the head rebuilt roughly 5k miles ago...

its kind of a new process but has been used by the military for years...its spendy but not unreasonable and no need for a torch the propane works the best
