My truck just died while I was driving down the freeway, it was stuttering and then just died. I have to check on it tomorrow morning, but just want to make sure I know what to check... Since the engine turns over and everything still seems to be working except im not getting fuel, that would leave only the following to check, right?

- Fuel Pump
- Fuel Pump Relay
- Fuel Lines

Thanks

Fuses. First just pour a little gas down the carb and see it fires up. If not, it might be a no spark problem.

Last night when I checked it on the side of the road there was no fuel, maybe I was just looking at the clear filter in the wrong light. Today it IS getting fuel, but check for spark and there is none. So, grabbing my extra coils and heading back to the truck. Gotta love biking around.

I know that the coil I used works.
I checked every connection with a light, there is power to the dizzy and coil, while key is in run position and start position.

But its still not running.

One thing that I noticed, the bracket on the dizzy condenser popped off of the condenser so it was just hanging (near the fan obviously) so if that bracket broke last night while i was driving, could it swinging and hitting the fan have caused internal damage and would that affect the dizzy? i see no dents

NEVERMIND!

I just took off the dizzy cap and noticed that the rotor no longer spins. that means timing chain right? its a 79 1.8 engine

I had a dizzy snap in half once.

Timing chain? Nope, dizzy is driven by the crankshaft. If the bracket broke off the condensor you would come to a stop. Needs the condensor to run. Pull the rotor off and examine it, then make sure it is seated all the way down. You should not be able to turn the rotor/distributor by hand in the engine unless the shaft is broken. I don't see where the two problems would be related.

isn't the timing chain driven by the crank shaft? I was told that if it's in gear and i push the truck back and forth, spinning the engine, that if the rotor doesn't spin it must be the timing chain. is this false?

The condenser is still attached by the wire, but simply popped out of the factory-attached mounting bracket, could this cause the engine to stop?

Yes the timing chain does drive the cam, which in many engines also drives the distributor. However in the Luv the distributor is driven from the crankshaft. 76 and up are this way.
The condensor case needs to be grounded to complete its circuit or the truck will not run.
