I just bought the truck and got it running. Cleaned up the carb, got it idling great! Now, though, when I put it in gear it revs itself! I disconnected the coasting faster solenoid, re hooked it up, pulled other wires, reconnected them. Nothing is changing.

HELP!!!

Disconnect the coasting richer solenoid on the carb and leave it disconnected. This is a manual transmission correct?

That's what I meant! Coasting richer. Do I have to disconnect both wires, or just one to stop the circuit?

So I disabled any switches and the coasting richer to the carb by unplugging the connector that goes to the carb and jumping the one wire that controls the fuel cutout solenoid (although your truck is newer, I don't know if there's a fuel pump wire on yours). If you get the factory manual you'll see there's all kinds of switches everywhere that can activate coasting richer (clutch, transmission, throttle I believe), but it's only supposed to come on in 3rd and 4th gear. I just disconnected all of them and/or jumped the appropriate wires because they are not required for emissions on '72 on CA.

Cool, the fuel cutoff has it's own wire, so I can just cut the wires to the coasting richer solenoid. I'll try that and see how it goes before I start disconnecting all the switches. Fingers are crossed!

I hate cutting (another OCD thing :P ) which is why I disconnected and jumped the fuel solenoid wire.

Good point. Cutting sucks. I can pull the connectors from the clips. That should work
