How much blow-by is normal? I drive an 80 4x4 Luvtruck with a stock 1.8. When I pull the blow-by hose off from the rocker arm cover with the engine running there is just a slight putter of blow-by being emitted from the blow-by hole. But if I remove the oil fill plug there is what seems to me,a lot, I mean ALOT, much more than what comes rom the blow by vent at the back of the rocker arm cover. My motor might be a little tired but it is not an oil burner. Seems with this much compression blow-by would come high oil consumption but my motor uses no oil whatsoever. Anyone have any advice on this? Thanks.

get a leak down tester and see what your percentage is. that will tell you if its an acceptable level of blowby. otherwise its really hard to tell if theres to much blowby or not.

There will be more at the oil fill opening because the larger size and there should be a baffle on the smaller openings to strip oil from the air. If it were bad you'd have lots of oil drops coming out.
When using a leak down tester or compression tester, always use them at engine operating temperature for accurate readings.

On these engines, a lot of air does come out of any open hole in the valve cover. All mine do it, worn out or new. It's just the nature of the beast.

Same here. My sounds like it could be in a band. It uses no oil and gets really good mileage.
