i'd take out the needle and float and see if they need cleaned. it sounds like your float is sticking

Flip your carb plate over. Wrong air to fuel mix.

from what i've heard the luvs are pretty bad for that. whenever you have a fuel problem always check the needle to see if it's cloged :D

Glad to here ya got it figured out! I was wondering.....before i rebuilt the carb on my 80 luv project.....i would turn the ignition on and watch the carb blow out fuel...was that the float level or the jets??? When i took it apart there was alot of grunge! I cleaned it all with chemtool b-12.That stuff is good stuff! I also adjusted the float and shaved the jets a little. When i start my truck now it fires right up , and if i gas on it the secondary opens fast! It seems like a good thing. Its alot faster on aceleration than my street luv.Anybody know about running leaded fuel in a stock luv engine? I run raceing fuel in my dirt bikes ...but im sure thats quite different! As far as the carb plate or spacer , one side is beveled or fluted on the small side. I started mine both ways ...and it seemed to work better with the fluted side down...anybody really know what side goes up??
