Hmmm, OK had the exhaust manifold off, went to replace the OLD exhaust donut with a new one that collapses and seals the exhuast pipe into the exhaust manifold. BUT...the "donut" appears to be solid steel? And NOT supposed to come off???? Does the crushable one go on TOP of that or what? I am confused, HELP!

Are you talking about the gasket on the engine? If you are, when I replaced my manifold with headers I took those off and put the cardboard-like gasket on. I'm not familiar with the term donut, if you could put up a pic that'd be great!

I mean the gasket-thing that is at the bottom of the exhaust manifold (looks like a squashible foil donut), where the single exhaust pipe gets inserted into the single exhaust opening in the exhaust manifold. NOT where it bolts onto the head, but where the manifold attaches to the front end of the actual exhaust pipe. The parts store sold me this thing that, on most vehicles, goes on there and squishes when the two bolts from the exhaust manifold to the flange on the exhaust pipe are connected and then are tightened up. Any help GREATLY appreciated!

Put the solid one on, it'll seal up just fine

The steal looking one is a soft crushable type that will seal just fine.
