I bought another luv the other day, a '72, and the engine is definitely NOT a 72. How do I figure out what year engine it is? It needs a water pump

If the engine has the intake and exhaust on the drivers side then its a 72-75 if the exhaust is on the drivers side and the intake on the passenger then its a 76-80. Does it say isuzu on the valve cover? One more way to tell if its an early or late model motor is by the valve cover. the 72-75 has a flat aluminum cover and the 76-80 has a sheetmetal cover.

Since you gave little info about it there's also a chance it could have a 2.3 or 2.6 isuzu. Those engines have timing belts instead of a chain...

also it is stamped on the block on the driver side what year it is... at least for the 76/80 blocks

Thanks guys, so what is the compatibility (different years) for water pumps? I'm asking just in case my store of choice doesn't have the right year.

i think all g180 g200 will work so 76/85 i think
