i just pulled my 3rd member off of my axle and noticed there was no gasket there im pretty sure there should be but im not an expert on this axle so if some one could tell me there is suppose to be a gasket here asap i would appreciate it. i have water in there so that is why i am taking it apart. oh ya and what type of gear oil should i use in the housing? last question what size bolt is the drain plug because i don't have that size and have to go and by one today. thanx. matt

if you have no gasket you can use black RTV for a gasket. just a small bead will work and you won't have it all over the place.

At the Toyota/Lexas shop where I work they never use gaskets on pans of any type. Always the black rtv.
