I had to replace my alternator in my 82 diesel too. Yes that is oil coming from the engine to the alternator. If your hose is leaking then you should get a new hose for it. This doesn't have anything to do with a brake fluid cartridge. If you are leaking oil, then most likely it is coming from that hose, running from the alternator to the engine block.

Maybe the alternator needs an oil pressure signal? This would be my guess if its only 1 hose going to it.

The oil line that routes to the the back of the alternator is used to keep the vacuum pump oiled and cooled.
The Vacuum pump is mounted to the back of the alternator (diesel englines do not create a lot of vacuum) to produce vaccum to run the brake booster.

Hope this helps

BTW to find that little oil line with banjo fitttings you have to order it directly threw Isuzu. It will cost you about $45.00, and $2.00 for the banjo gaskets.
It you just need to change the alternator or belts REMOVE THE HOSE! or it willl brake since the line was soft , over time it gets hard from the heat and will brake.

Woody, do you have any pictures of your LUV and S-10? I mainly want to see the S-10's interior and under the hood. I wanted to see how the diesel engine is set up in an S-10, because every one you see is gas. The LUV is cool because it is 4x4 and the decals are always cool to see. Thanks.
