I rebuilt my whole motor for around $700 myself (a lot of ebay parts). The best way to become "mechanically inclined" is just to dive in. If you ease into the water it tends to be more painful (my opinion). Everyone starts somewhere. I think you can do it!

. I just bought a 77 luv. The engine is in bad shape 
. I have been told by a respectable mechanic that it has blow-bye and needs rebuilt. The cheapest price is 1,600$ (just for parts) that I can find around here. I bought it for 400$ and don't want to spend much more than that on it. It's just used to get me to work(18 miles round trip). Can anyone tell me if it really needs rebuilt and if so where can I get parts or an engine for a decient price. If you can't tell by now I am not mechanicly inclined 
so I need help.
