Over the last few years, I've seen 2 Luvs on ebay with low mileage orignal owners.
I think there may be a few people on there who's family members bought Luv new and sold it to their kid.

My Avatar is a pic of my 1980 Mikado 4 x 4 with less than 28,700.00 Miles on it. It is the most Original one that I have seen so far. It does have very few Mods I.E. Chromed parts under the hood and under the truck; the roll bar; pinstriping; and the cloth door panels and matching cloth on the seats have been in question. Although I do have an original receipt from 1980 showing that the Interior was ordered custom.

I have seen a handful of clean low mileage Luvs pop up through recent years on Ebay but as far as ORIGINAL and show quality my is the only one I've seen. I would like too see the other ones that Zane mentioned that would be cool...... :D

I don't think ebay has posts from a year ago. However the couple of luvs I saw had more mileage than your Luv. There was one that close to the same condition as your Luv. It's all about being in the right place at the right time for one like that. 8)

Yes I agree, I actually saw mine on Ebay once before about 6 six years ago but at that time I was broke as dirt. 5 years later (About this time last year) I saw it again. Although by then I had caught up a bit financially and was beginning the restoration of my 79 luv 4x4. When I saw this one return to Ebay and was able to pick it up for about $6,500.00 I jumped on it. I figured even after restoring one as rewarding as it is to restore one yourself it would still have been restored and not Original and cost more than that. So now I'm completing what I call "A Partial Restoration" on another 80 4x4 that I have; which will be a daily driver/gas saver.

It has been nice when I wanted or needed to see a map of original stuff (I.E. Wiring ) to just walk over to the show truck and see how the factory did it.

If I ever see a 1972 in near mint I might be really tempted to add that to the collection so I would have one from the first year they made the Luv and the last year of the same body style. I think an all Original 72 with such low mileage would be like finding a needle in a Hay stack 8)

I actually tried to buy your truck when it was on ebay a few years ago. I was high bidder at $4.500.00 but it didn`t meet the reserve.

I know what you mean about having an original truck to look at when you are restoring another one. Even though my 79 4x4 is so rusty it will never run again, it is totally original, I know, because I am the original owner and I looked at it many times while restoring my 80. And I have had to use a lot of parts from it to restore the 80. My old 79 4x4 still has the original spare tire hanging under it. It has never been on the ground. It still has air in it ! These trucks came from the factory with BF Goodrich tires , made in Japan.

When I get my 80 finished, I am going to start parting out whatever is left over. The engine and transfer case were still fine about 9 years ago. I think the engine is probably still good. The AC still had pressure in it when i took the compressor off to put in my 80 about a month ago. I just recharged it and it works perfect.

I am putting my 80 back as original as possible. I had it painted the original color. The engine is original and bone stock and runs like new with only 69,000 miles. I will be installing a NOS dash this week !

My 80 may not be the best restored Luv in existance, but I am working very hard to make it one of the best !

Yes sir my 79 4x4 the first one that I acquired and is pretty much a rust bucket as well :( I've also robbed parts off of it through the years. Although I may be selling some stuff off of it soon to clean out the ole shop a bit.

I have rebuilt the 1.8 that was in the 79 4x4 and I am about to install it into the 80 4x4 project truck. However, I plan to also rebuild the 1.8 that I just removed from the 80 project and just store it for awhile as a back up. I don't think gas prices will ever go down so I'll be set with the back up motor and when, if ever I need to change it again; It would be ready minimizing my time later by being able to just pull one out and drop the other in within a day or two. If that makes sense. You might also consider holding on to your original/extra motor for that reason...just a thought

Honestly I've fallen alittle behind on the project truck.....I pulled the engine and tranny and purchased an A/C system from one of the other guys on here. I've purchased one Mokadeth's Intake Manifolds and a Weber Carb but that's about it so far. Haven't made the time to due much after that.

I'm not sure what kind of gas mileage I will get after having rebuilt the motor and adding a Weber, New Offy Intake and Header and switching to the Mallory Unilite distributor but we'll see... :?: Anyway gotta get outta here for now, the girlfriend and kiddo and I are in Port A for alittle vacation and If I spend too much time on here I'll get scalped

Besides she looks too good in a Bikini for me too be sitting in the Condo on the computer 8) :D later........

I saw this old thread while fartin around - My 80 4x4 isn't quite mint, but it is a gem. It had a topper on it saving the box, plus the previous owner had some sheet tin professionally fitted to the inside panels to help prevent side-box/fender damage. It has 64k on it now. I've had it for about 4 yrs and my son used it as a daily driver for a while, but he babies it and uses his moms car more than the truck.

My old man replaced a head gasket on it last month and took the smog crap off (saved it though), I cleaned/re-lubed hubs. He called me to ask if I could look up timing info, I just laughed and told him to look under the hood, the spec stickers are like new. I need new pics, my old ones were lost but I posted a couple here a few years back here is the link.

Interior is great, just one crack in dash (of course) body is super clean cancer free which is unheard of this far north esp. for a 4x4. Anyway just wanted to share.
