Last night I was changing my radiator hoses.. I was using a hose to fill the radiator up when water splashed and went all over the engine while it was running.

The engine died, and when I tried to crank it it wouldn't idle and would suddenly die like it ran out of gas. Worst of all, the GEN light was on and didn't turn off. So I went to bed (9PM) and got up for work (4AM) and it STILL was doing it! I had the keys and had to open up shop so I panicked and started it and floored the motor, and suddenly the GEN light went out and I drove OK. I turned off the motor to go down a hill (like I always do to save gas) and when I tried to start it it did the same thing, GEN light, wouldn't run. Floored the motor again and I was OK. The truck has been running good, now, but I want to know-anyone know what happened?

Sounds like a Slipping belt. They may be worn and have a hard slick surface. I have seen pulley's get slick too. But that is not common. Check the belt.

If the truck wont charge then the fuel pump shuts down.

Yeah thats it, its not a Gen light, its a no fuel pump light.

Check the wirring connectors. Both at the rear of the alternator and the one for the Regulator mounted on the inner guard.

On or the other will probably be cactus.

Electrical circuits do not like water.

The regualtor mounted on the inner guard of the luv is not sealed up. Its needs air to cool it i think.

So you're saying I probably would have no use for a snorkel on my truck, eh?

If its petrol there is probably no point what so ever.

If its diesel something can be done.

No, I mean a snorkel for fording deep water with my 4x4 :) You know, so when the water level goes up over the hood the engine doesn't suck any water in.. :)

Your distributor will get wet about the same time the water gets high enough to get in the carb and your truck will stop.

Hence why i said what i said, theres really no point. Gas engines do not like running under water, the ignition system does not like it.

Not to mention you will have no charge again.
