Okay i need help my dad and i were talking and we decided we want to put a v6 in the ole luv instead of the original 4cyl but what engines and trannys fit in it that i can just swap out where can i find one hopefully rebuilt and is there any one in particular that just goes right in with little to no modifacations in the cab if not it's cool we can modify it but he and i were just wanting to get one asap and i was also thinking i should probably get a bigger gas tank right??? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Tyler

If you are looking for a direct bolt-in - then an Impulse factory high performance G200z (90 hp stock w/smog and A/C attached) or a newer 2.6 with an older 2.3 carb intake/ignition (125 hp stock w/smog and A/C attached) will bolt up to your old 4 speed tranny or a newer 5 speed (if it's a 2WD truck).

Other than that - you can add a 4.3 V6, a 350 V8, or whatever you want. Butitwon't be cheap or easy.

:) There are a few things you can do. I think Summit Racing/Jegs has a motor mount kit that you can purchase and this will allow you to bolt a 350 small block with a turbo 350/400 into a Chevy Luv. It will also allow you to bolt in a 4.3 V6 since it is a 350 with 2 cylinders saved off. They might have the headers to clear the frame/chassis. Hope this helps.
Also if your not going to reuse the factory A/C out of the luv let me know, please pm me. I would be very interested in buying all the componets. My wife would like to have A/C in my truck. Thanks for time.
Mike.

You might want to check with Derek to see if he still has the V8 conversion stuff available. You can probably PM him here...

http://www.jewettracing.com/pages/LUV-Page.htm

I can't find anything on V6 conversion parts/kits. I know they are out there. My understanding is that a 4.3 GM V6 is just a couple cylinders short of a SBC 350, which might mean that V8 mounts would work for what you have in mind.

I copied this link from another thread here on the site, but I don't know which one...ack..

Anyway, here is the Hooker V8 mounts that ppl are using. I think I saw some discussion on setting them back a bit to work with a 4.3...
