yeah. sorry guys, just got back from mexico and they're language stuck with me. haha

but anyway, i was driving from work yesterday, on the stupid freeway, so my rpm's were a little too high for my likings, but usually when i drive for a little i let go of the gas, push in the clutch, and coast for a while. well i pushed in my clutch and my rpms just FLEW up. so i started freaking out and got off at the next exit and the light was red. so i shoved in the clutch, and there it is again, high rpms. i shut off my truck. then when it turned green, started it, shifted into 1st and burnt rubber longer than i ever have. hahahahaha accidently btw.

so i pulled into fred meyers parking lot and opened the hood and immediately found the problem. the throttle cable, where it has the 2 bolts on both sides of the plate on the carb, if you guys can picture what im talking about, was completely undone. it must have come undone from all the bumps and rattles. so i just tightened it up, and knew it was going to mess up the way it drove because it has to be set a certain way. so now there is absolutely no *umph*. not that there was much to begin with, but before i could get up and go in a way. now its just like an old grandma car and goes 1-20 in 45 minutes.

not really. but you get my drift

what exactly is the adjustment for that? i've messed with it a little but don't want to much anymore unless i know what the result is going to be.

While it is shut off you want to adjust the cable untill you have just a tiny bit of slack. Too much slack and you won't get full throttle - too little slack and you will have a very high idle.

Can't say as I've ever had that happen to me, no.

Here's how I'd ballpark it back into adjustment though....

Set the cable in place, and get both nuts started. Leave plenty of room between them. Have someone hold the gas petal at WOT. Tighten everything until the throttle cable is *just* taunt as the throttle on the carb hits the stops. Then release the pedal, and make DAMN sure the throttle closes all the way. Adjust until it does. Torque the crap out of everything.

If the throttle plate is closed when you are off the gas, and just hitting the stop as your foot hits the floor, seems like you are good to go.

Someone speak up if that procedure won't work, please?

Merlyn
