I swear to god, it has to be, because I have little black stains ALL over my col de sac from where my truck is parked at different times. Whenever I warm it up, it just spits out crap from the exhaust, which looks like a black soot, its watery yet oily/gassy, i dunno, and I thought the machine shop replacing the valve seals would help with that, but no. And another problem is my valves still click/squeek. I thought that would be fixed too but nooooo.

someone help. haha

oh and i've tried adjusting the mixture but I really have no idea how. so thanks guys

My stock engine used to do that on my '76. It's just water vapor that mixes with soot in the exhaust when you first start the engine in the morning.

Quote from http://www.greenercars.org/news_gbd5.htm
Quote:
Exhaust pollution originates inside an engine's cylinders, where the mixture of air and gasoline is rapidly burned. The heat from combustion creates a high pressure, pushing the piston to produce the mechanical energy that moves the car. If fuel were perfectly burned, the only byproducts would be water vapor and carbon dioxide (CO2). CO2 is non-toxic (after all, it's what we exhale), although it does cause global warming—but that's another matter.

to ugotluv.

yeah deffinately. haha

let's not jinx it and hope it lasts me more than 5 months this time!

and to ben.

HELLO!!! I don't think I've ever chatted with you before so thanks on that input! I guess I'll stop worrying about what it spits out, I'll just put a towel under the exhaust so I don't stain my curb anymore. hahaha And for the record, your luv is awesome. :-)

Now just awaiting some info on the reason my valves do that. The top end has been rebuilt twice, the second time torn apart completely, so it makes no sense to me. I know i've adjusted the valves correctly, or and close to correct as one can come. I guess I'll check when I retorque the headbolts again and change the oil.

thanks again for any more help guys!

p.s. i used the wrong TO/TOO in my thread title. supposed to be too.

All G series engines sound a little like a sewing machine at idle...that's just normal valve train noise. As for the sooty crap coming out of your exhaust...like Ben said, that's normal on startup and goes away as it warms up.
