 Post subject: oil pan gasket

has anyone here changed a oil pan gasket on a 4x4 luv without pulling the motor. i have a 79 that i just rebuilt the motor on and the gasket split in the rear after 2 weeks. i think it was a little cold out when i put it on, mabe 20 degrees.

I have never done it, not sure if you can get the clearance needed. You might be able to unbolt it from the mounts and lift with a hoist to gain a couple inches. If anyone has done it successfully they will chime in eventually.

I have, it's a bioooch!!!!!!! You have to unbolt the motor mounts and jack up the engine/trans assy with a bottle jack ( at least that's what I used) by the transmission. But I'll say it again, it's a biooooooch!!! Tip--- get some 3m spray adhesive and spray the gasket, both sides before install. Ultra leak proof. Or you can do what I did and forget the gasket and get some Permetex Right Stuff gasket/sealant and just put enough on the oil pan and crank it down. I did that after blowing out my third gasket. Hasen't leaked since. Hope this helps. Good luck.
