Not hard with the gear of the right donor vehicle.

A Trooper is not the one, if youve got drums on the front yours is not a 4x4.

You want luv or Pup brakes.

Find yourself a 2wd Luv or Isuzu Pup, pull the spindles, calipers , rotors and rubber fluid line and swap into your Luv.

There is no real need to use the Trooper calipers if your Luv calipers are fine, the Luv calipers work fine with the Trooper vented rotors. If you do upgrade to Troop calipers you will need the rubber brake lines, the Luv and Troop calipers look similar so they may not notice at Autozone.

The Troop calipers should fit a 2wd Luv, I used the rotors and calipers of a 1st gen Trooper 84/85 i think.

This was the donor Trooper

Whats the facination with the Trooper gear????

I think its best if you get the whole lot off the same donor truck.
Make note of build month and year when your removing them. Engrave it into the calipers or something. Can make it a lot easier to get parts later.

Getting the lot off the one truck means that everything fits right.
Not all discs are the same thickenss and that could lead to disaster if you fit the wrong caliper.

You need pre 87 stuff, after that they changed the balljoints around.

this is all for the front brakes not the back.

the trooper is the same as a reg-cab short bed right?????

so why not put rear disc on at the same time.

88, 91 troopers had 12 bolt rear end with rear disc brakes.
thuogh there 4.55s or the hard to find 4.77s

get the ring and pinon from a 88 or newer isuzu truck with a 2.6L and auto trans, they have 12 bolt rear ends. the same as the trooper, with 4.11s but not rear disc.

and you have one (very) strong rear end. from origanal parts. that will handel a high powerd 350 V-8

that makes a combo of parts thats all (factroy original), but was never sold in that combo in the USA.

In the US Troopers are the most common Isuzu rig on the road, or in the junk yards. Its all about what is available over here.

You could put the 12 bolt diff in but its a different track, not sure on the spring spacings.

The early rear disc, (88-90 or 91) had a crappy piston pushing type E brake setup. The later disc brake rear setup is much better with the drum inside disc setup.

+1

I'm in the same boat....got a '75 2wd LUV and I want to upgrade to discs...

For now, I'm going to grab the hubs and calipers off a later model LUV and do the disc brake swap, but I'd really prefer vented discs to solid rotors...any insight on what'll actually fit such a setup? I suppose I'll have to just start measuring disc width at the JY's.

So a 2wd luv with drums, will only accept the disc hubs from a later disc LUV?

What about swapping over a Trooper/Pickup hub?

Is there a swap for the rear drum to disc with the stock rear end?

I have a 72 and a 73. Both have had the front drums removed and upgraded to disc. I went down to local yard found 1 set up off a 76 the other off a 78 all I took was the disc brake setup rotor calipers and disc. I did take the lines everything was a simple swap. got new pads turned disc did a fluid change both trucks stop on a dime. The 73 has a 500 plus hp 383 in it now. The factory booster works just fine on it no vac bleed off from the motor that sometimes can occur from high hp motors. the 72 has org motor for now and I cant feel a diff from them both. total cost was like 100 each.

I'm new to this site and the LUV world. I was curious as to if front brake lines from a 85 trooper would fit on my 80 luv 4x4. And also how many other parts would work off of a trooper onto a luv. Thanks for any input.....

Now that I'm getting my truck back on the road I am also going to do the drum to disc swap.

I've been looking for 76 to 80 Luvs in junk yards. Not easy to find!
Most have already been scavenged for one part or another.
I did find some Luvs in Oklahoma, North Carolina and Virginia.
Still waiting for replies.

Anyone have the name of a junk yard where they know there is a Luv with intact disc brake set up? Thanx!
