My truck is 79 4x4 I cant seem to get it to fire what steps can i take to troubleshoot this.

You might want to do a site search for this, there have been several recent no-start threads.

If you don't have a factory manual, you might want to invest the $10-20 on ebay to pick one up. They are very helpful in T-shooting these trucks.

So, with that out of the way, what have you checked? Have you done recent work to the truck? Do you have 12V from the key to the coil? Is it an AT or standard?

How have you checked for fire? It seems like everytime I had a problem like this on mine, it ended up being my coil wire, from the coil to the distributor. I would start there and work backwards. Check the coil for spark, then the wiring going to the coil, and so on until you find where you have power, then the last place that didn't have power is usually your culprit.
