I have a 1978 luv that I just got and I am starting to fix it up, but here is the first problem that I have come across but i can not figure out.

So the fuel pump is new looking, within three years, but it is only getting half power from the battery. I have taken the pump off of the car and hooked it up directly to the battery and it runs great, and i have even cut the main wire to the fuel pump, bypassing the ignition and any fusses, and hooked it directly to the battery and this even worked good. But as you all can guess, this left the pump on all the time, even when the truck is off!

So now I am trying to find were in the wiring harness I have the bad connection. I don't believe that the 78 luv has a fuel pump relay, I have looked in the book and on line to find the location if there is one.

So if any of you boys know where it would be or what else I can try let me know.

As for more info, the truck, with the pump only getting half power, runs really poorly toping out at 10-15 mph. But three months back, the truck was runny amazingly, and this problem started and then just got worse and worse.

I have hooked up an amp/DC volt reader and the wiring at the pump is only getting half of what the battery is putting out. and I have cleaned the ground wire, but that did not help.

I think there is a fuel pump relay behind the metal cover on the right side by the firewall.

if that does not work you can get a after market relay and run a wire from the ignition to the relay and a hot wire from the bat to the fuel pump threw the relay so when you turn on the key it will run

Rondog is right, there is a relay under that shield. Is the alternator charging ok? Alternator has to charge to close that relay and operate the fuel pump.

there are wiring diagrams in the information section of the main page.

Fuel pump should only get 12v when the key is in the start position or the engine in running and the relay is sensing 12v from the alternator. It is a safety thing
