Hey guy's, I just got a new set of wheels and uniroyal 225/70/14's all around, I had the Luv running and put it in N and then locked the hubs, then went and put it in 4H, I went to back out of the drive way, It felt like I had my emergency brake on, in Reverse or 1st, I put it back in N and took it out of 4x4 and it drove fine, What is going on? My front drive shaft on the 4 wheel is sloppy, but it was like that last year and it worked OK.

I'll get pic's up of my new wheels and tires... still needs paint.

This may be to obvious but are you sure it wasn't in 4 low? One thing you could do is put it up in the air and try it again ans see what happens. May be a linkage problem

If you were turning at all when you backed up or went forward, (not completely straight), this is normal. In 4x4 the front and back wheels are forced to turn the same speed. On a corner they can't so they tend to bind. Much worse on a hard surface like pavement.

The wheels were straight, it did fine last year:(... I think this weekend I will check the fluid and change it with full synthetic 5W30. The 4x4 shop said to lock the hubs and not put in 4wheel, and the try and see what it does.

Sounds like good advice, you should also try the reverse, hubs unlocked in 4HI. If it binds either way then you have an issue somewhere. Let us know what you find. I'd also try to get it on some gravel or dirt and give it a try and see what you find.

as i hear once a month you should drive it with it in 4 wheel even if its in town so that you keep the the front axle well lubed but don't go any farther than 10 miles in town with the hubs locked and it 4 wheel drive.

The same thing happend to my '80 luv at the first snow. Did you check the front diff oil? If it's old or too thick it can really hurt performance. Mine was very old and had the consistancy of honey when I checked it. I would drain it and fill it up with some fresh 75-90 gear oil for the winter(run 80-90 in the summer). That did the trick for me, it does fine in 4hi now and I'm even running 235/75/15's.
