Alright heres whats going on whith my truck. It starts and runs perfect for about 5min. Then when i let off the gas it will pop a little bit (just mini backfires) then it dies. After words i start it up and i can drive for as long as i whant and it dosnet seem to do it. Anny ides on it, i was thinking since its backfireing that it could be an ignition problem. Air cleaner and carb are clear, i havnet checked out my fuel system yet. Any ideas

Poping a little bit when you let off of the gas is a good indication that you have an air leak. Check your vacuum hoses to see if their all hooked up or if they have any cracks in them. You might want to spray carb cleaner around any lines and at the base of the carb. If the motor idles up, you have a leak were you just sprayed.

Check the small wire on the side of your distributor, pop the cap off and look at your rotor button,and the point wires.

ill be poping my distributor cap here in a bit but im the guy who swaped in the electronic ignition from an 82LUV.

I hope this doesn't turn out to be a compatibility issue with the electronic ignition because I just ordered a complete ignition system for an '81-'82 Luv to put in the truck. Please keep us posted...

i hadnt thought about that. But im perty shure its just a fuel filter, it is in the wheel well and i have been mudding it perty hard so its coming off tomarow. Ill keep you posted.

Thanks, that'll be useful information. I can't wait to get the stuff done to my truck. The lifters seem to be getting louder on a daily basis. Electronic Ignition, rebuilt engine, header, custom Magnaflow header back exhaust, upgraded cam, ported and polished head, rebuilt Weber, and a camo'd paint job, push bar, and side bars (maybe straight steel custom fab bumpers). I wonder if I'll notice a difference...
