It sounds to me like the speed sensor is going out. The senser is probably on the tail end of the transmission tailshaft. It should have a couple of wires coming out of it that go to the speedometer. I used to own a Freightliner big truck, and that is what the speedometer would do when the sensor started to go out. Only on Freightliners, the sensors were on the front left wheel. That is what I would check first. You might call an auto parts place and see if they can check out the sensor for you, if you remove it. If you will buy a new one from them, they will usually check it out for free. It is really easy to do.

Have you checked to see if it is conected properly at both ends? Could be that it works at a slower speed because the cable has a worn place in it. FREIGHTSHAKER RICK, I wonder how many x truck drivers we have here? I Kinda miss the open road! Mostly drove petes, but i took a few good trips in Shakers! Ya still driven?

Yes John I am still driving. I sold my truck to move into the office and try dispatching, for a trucking company that I was leased to. After 2 years of that, driving seamed a lot easier. So I am driving locally now, enjoying an easy life. I do miss the over the road stuff because I had so much fun, but I just do not miss how many hours a week you had to work. Every week 80 to 100 hours, just burned me out after 20 years.
