What price would you guys expect to pay for a parts truck?

Truck was wrecked 2 years ago and has been sitting since. Lady says she drove it for fifteen years before the wreck, and the engine and drivetrain has always been solid. She listed it for $500, and when I asked her what she was willing to go down to she said $350 initially.

The truck is about an hour or so away, and I would have to tow it back.

Wanted to see what you guys thought.

I'm interested because I'm at the point where my engine needs a rebuild, and I thought this might be a cheaper option for now.

(Note: I used to post under getwillie, but I couldn't figure out the login credentials for it and didn't want to bug the admins)

Thanks.

What year is your truck? The parts truck? What was damaged in the wreck? $350 sounds like a fair price, but I'd want to hear it run before I committed. I like to get my stuff REALLY cheap, and here in the NW Luv's are much more plentiful than where you are. Engine rebuild kits can be had for less than $350, but you still have machine work to do, etc. There are certain items that would sell here or on ebay pretty quickly, but not any one item that will bring you a lot of money. Ignition switches, sun visors, front valences (some years are harder to find), heater control valves, etc. Stuff like that you could sell off to recover some of your initial layout. Take a look at the classifieds here and see what people are looking for, might help to decide if you want a whole truck laying around, or if a rebuild kit would be better.

I'm rambling a bit, sorry. Good luck whatever you decide. I'm probably going to be looking for some stuff for my '75 soon... :)

$350 might be a pretty good deal back there. Out here it would need to be cheaper.
Give it a week, and offer $250. Point out all the rust and bad things about it to her, so she will go for the $250. :D
