I am having trouble with my truck (1981 2.2L diesel 4x4)
To give all of you an idea of the chain reactions that have happened since I bought the truck in March.

The fuel filter clogged on the drive home (800 miles of driving 55mph)
Heater core clogged. (middle of a cold Ohio week) Truck ran hot.
Water pump went out (60 miles from home)
Thermo looked stuck to me so I changed it.
Put new top, bottom and heater core hoses on it
Put a new belt on it (already had it a part why not?)
New oil line for the vacuum pump to crank case (very rare part that I broke while installing the new belt)
As I was taking out to test the cooling system, the rear brake drum came out of adjustment leaking fluid all over the frame and axle.
And after all of that the truck is now loosing water some where. I can not find any place it is leaking,
(using water instead of Antifreeze since I have not corrected the problem)

I am hoping that it is the heater core leaking, since that has been an on going problem (has been clogged twice), if that is not it I will have to expect the worst.
There is no water in the oil
There is no water coming out the tail pipe
No loss of power
Did see antifreeze on the front axle shaft (pass side of truck near oil filter)
I did inspect the oil cooler and does not seam to be coming from there.
Tonight I plan on bypassing the heater core with a long section of hose to see if that corrects the problem.
Any ideas on where it could be coming from, Are these Diesel trucks famous for any cooling problems.
I have an 85 s-10 same engine no problems like this

Any idea what the tallest tire will fit on these trucks, AT or AS style

i assume its losing water while you're driving. Have u checked your radiator cap ? Also remember that straight water boils pretty fast and will evaporate out through the cap, antifreeze wont evaporate and it also lubes the water pump. hope this helps

Yup. I was just about to say radiator cap. I went through 3 of em from autozone till I found one that would seal all the way. They all seem to leak right after I got home and shut the truck off. The fluid was coming out of the cap, but running down the overflow tube next to the radiator. I thought it was the tank on the rad, but it was just the cap.

I belive I fixed the problem, one bolt on the water pump was not fastened down, it felt as if it was, but buy looking at it you could clearly see it was not tight.

I tryed to tight in down, but stopped before I stripped it or worse broke it, so I used some washers to make up the space.

Seemed to work, I will keep my eye on it. Let the board know if that was the problem.
