My son came home from work in a flat bed tow truck with the 78 (blue truck) on the back. Electrical problems.

First it just shut off and he rolled to the curb. Wouldn't even click.
Regulator fuse was blown. New fuse, now it only cranks and slowly as if the timing was advanced too much, but won't fire. I have the clutch pedal switch bypassed. (This is the one that makes it so you have to step on the clutch in order to start the truck.) These two wires for the switch got VERY hot and even smoked a little.
I have looked in the book and read the diagrams, and my guess so far is the fuel pump relay or the ignition switch.

Anybody else have any ideas or thoughts or are familiar with this kind of problem?

Well. While I was messing with the carb. last week, The wire that comes out of the choke, goes around the carb and into the plug from the fire wall, got pinched in between two parts of the carb. It took a day or two, but it chewed trough and became a direct short. Truck dead. Cranking slowly, because of the juice draw in the short, etc.
Fixed that so I had a strong starter crank but no spark. Looked every where, and finally found that the Regulator fuse (which had blown already with the short so I thought because I swaped the fuse a couple times it must have a good connection) didn't have a good clean connection. A little sand paper... and purrs like a kitten.
So I'm off to help my buddy with an eng. swap on his 55 Chevy pick up.
