I have recieved new rings. For each piston their is one flat ring, and one ring that has a bevel and a dot. heres the kicker, the bevel is on the the side that is not dotted. the instructions say face the dot to the top. But i keep hearing that the bevel is supposed to face the top? which do I do??? This really sucks, since my old rings were both flat..for each piston so I have nothing to go off of. Also very importatnt. Does the flat ring go on the top slot (towards the head) or the bottom slot (towards sump). Thanks for the help! :D

Identifing marks (the dot) always face up or towards the top of the piston. The flat ring or unmarked ring is the top, the #1 compression ring. The ring with the bevel and/or dot is the #2 ring and of coarse the oil ring is the bottom ring.
