My brother in law has had a serious failure with his car and asked to borrow the '79. I pulled the plug wire for the bad cylinder and let him take it. Any risk for him driving on 3 cylinders? He will be doing mostly city driving in the 35 mph range. The truck won't do more than about 50 anyway. I let him take it reluctantly becuase I'm concerned about him being able to power out of a bad situation. It will probably only be for a week or so, maybe 200 miles on the truck. I put a spark plug boot over the plug connection on the distributor cap. It smells like it's running rich becuase it's dumping #3's fuel out the tailpipe, but aside from poor gas mileage and a lack of power, is there any danger?

At 6' 6" he was a bit of a squeeze, but he sure looked cool pulling out in that truck...:)

Thanks!

Yes the dist. cap will carbon track and get ruined, replace the plug wire and let it work even if it is short term.

Long term, the unburnt fuel will wash down the cylinder. I forget exactly what happens, but I know it's not a good idea for a long time.

If I leave the plug wire attached, it pops back through the carb to the point it's not driveable. Plus it spits fire when it backfires. I picked up the replacement engine today :)
