What's the best way to move a complete engine? I plan to put it in the back of my truck, but I'm not really sure how to 'mount' it, or what to do to keep it from sliding around. Pick up is planned for this Tuesday, so your ideas before then would be appreciated :)

The last one I moved just had a block of wood underneath on one side and straps to keep in in place. I moved it about 80 miles that way.

I like the tire idea though. Never thought of that.

The tire is good, a pallet with a slat or two cut out for the oil pan works too.
I just use 4 straps, each pulling out to the four corners of the bed, so it can't move. And drive carefully.

Yep...an old tire or two and some straps to cinch it down does the trick.

Only probem is what to do with the old greasy tires when you're done...lol

We use old tires at work to help hold the crane's load ball. That's the large round steel ball with the hook on one end. You don't want it rolling off the trailer onto the 405. 8O

You could move it piece by piece but it would take awhile. LOL

ron just wanted a reason to state that he has large steel balls :P

but yeah a old tire (something like 31 x 10.50s work reall well) or a couple wooden blocks and some ratchet straps. be sure to stop and check the tension on the straps after a few miles.

Well, luvprojects did most of the lifting and shoving. I felt like an old man trying to heft that sucker  . Couple hundred pounds for sure...

Guess I should start a thread on the 4x4 now, but as it is I snagged quite a few parts, not to mention my Weber came in the mail yesterday :)

luvprojects was kind enough to not mention how my truck crapped out on the way down. Took about an hour to sort it out, ignition switch popped something and quit outputting voltage to the + side of the coil, less than 10 miles from Sutherlin. The Oregon Highway Patrol stopped by to check on things, the officer looked about 12 to me, but was really cool and left me alone. Said he'd come back to check later if I was still stranded, he wanted to make sure I had a cell phone or AAA. Jumpered the coil directly to the battery, the other half of the switch still works. It's an aftermarket switch, I'll have to sort it out tomorrow...Anyway, once I had it hotwired, it ran great the whole trip.

So here's the goods:

The Weber came in the mail with the strangest foam stuff in it I've ever seen. It was sort of this crumbly, flaky stuff...Anyway, the ball shaft looks nearly perfect, so it was a good score...
