Hey. I have a small trickle of brake fluid leaking between the brake booster and the master cylinder. Does anyone know which item is to blame. Should I replace the booster or the master cylinder, or both? The leak is very small, I only lose about 1/4 inch of fluid a week out of the reservoir, but I would like to get it figured out.

I'd say the master cylinder. Eventually, the booster will fill up to the level of the master cylinder and you will think it magically stopped leaking. A disaster waiting to happen. :(

Well lets see, maybe because the only part of the master/booster that holds brake fluid is the master cyl.. Ah i guess the booster holds fluid too but it's not supposed to have any in it.If the master cyl. is leaking you are heading for disaster big time like mytmouz said ,change or repair quick as your ins. company will not like you if you don't.

Thanks for the tip, now I think it is leaking from the bottom of the front (closest to firewall) brake reservoir, and then trailing down to make it look like it is coming from in between the booster and master cylinder. My brakes work fine, for now, but i will clean everything up and track down the leak. Thanks for the info.

If it is just coming from the resevoir then you are in luck. If you get the fluid level down to where it won't all spill out (keep enough in there to avoid getting air in the system) and then pull off the resevoir and clean things up. Just don't touch the pedal while you got things apart.

Well I replaced my master cylinder today, and that stopped the leak. Plus my brakes feel 100% better. Flushed out all the old brown fluid and put in new bleeder screws all the way around. Thanks again for all the help.
