Now this is weird...
I'm driving along minding my own bizness, hit a series of bumps in the road, as usual in this town. engine dies. GEN light comes on stays on..I pull over crank some more nothing...buddy comes along and as he cranks it, I jump the pos coil wire to batery...runs, until I disconnect it from battery, reconnect to the ignition (black wire yellow stripe).... nothing, do this again a few times bypassing...starts runs idles.....reconnect everything the way it goes, starts runs I drive away. <whew> so I think.

Down the road hit another couple bumps same thing, managed to crawl home, would die any time I got over 3000 rpms or so. Now it's dead in the water won't fire at all. almost like something in the ignition circuit is jacked up.

The GEN light comes on when I turn the key to start posistion and stays on. ???

I did find what looks like a broken ground strap under the tranny hump next to the tranny case.

Any clues?? :x :x

OOPS

Well, I'm out trying to get this pig to fire, wife is cranking while I'm watching and listening. BOOM!! Muffler split right down the seam. Getting spark to all plugs but still no start. Looks like I'm SOL.

WHEW!!

Been major league bummed for the last few hours, thinking she had maybe breathed her last. I decided to do some rewiring from the ignition all the way to the coil and on to the Pertronix, along the way I found a tiny tear in the insulation on both wires coming from the module. Adjacent to the small tear, was a tiny pinhole burned thru the dizzy cap, when Looked inside the dizzy, it looked as if someone had dragged a tig welder around :)

So, she lives to see another day... now I gotta go get a muffler, that som'bitch looks like a grenade went off inside it. Anyone recommend a good 1? Maybe something with some ballz?

Try using a cherry bomb with a cheapo aftermarket auto parts store muffler behind it. They are both cheap and cherry bombs are practically indestructable.

I added a resonator tip on the tail-end of mine with 2 1/2 inch pipe all the way back from the header.

It has a nice roar when you put your foot into it, but otherwise it's quiet enough to keep cops off of your back. Plus it has enough back-pressure to not lose any low-end torque.

Thanks for the suggestion guys.
Lucked out today, stopped by my buddy's shop. Was telling him what happened, and he goes "!! hey wait a second..." gave me a brand new Flowmaster he had laying around for months still in the box. Sounds pretty good now.

Not being in your shoes or at your truck you might try, when all the books have failed is a wiggle test. Connect a vote meter to the 12 volt pos wire feeding the coil and turn the key on and start wiggling your wiring loom and watching your meter, start at the ignition switch and move on down the loom. Also check your fuel pump wiring just in case. And I am not sure what happen to the a wife, did some one shoot one!

Flowmaster or nothing for me. Great choice and looks like you got a great price as well.
