With the engine running, the temp control on full cold and the A/C control on A/C or MAX A/C, the compressor clutch will pull in and run for about 5 to 10 seconds then drop out. I'll wait for about 30 seconds and then it does the same thing again. The compressor sounds good when running, it just won't stay engaged.

This sounds like a classic example of low refrigerant charge. When the compressor engages, the high side in the system goes up, while the low side goes down -- this is normal. For a fully charged system, the low side will hover around 28-38psi, and the high side will run 150-200, sometimes higher, depending on temperature and humidity. When the system charge is low, the low side generally runs down below the low-side cut-off switch, and the compressor clutch is disengaged to prevent damage.
A typical charge and leak test will run between $85-135, depending on the shop. This would include a charge, an electronic leak test, and if necessary, a dye installed in the system (unless it's already there). Hopefully, the leak is minor and can be fixed at the same time. Some very small leaks are often found on the next visit.
If leak is found to not be the problem, I suppose overcharging could present trouble from the other end of the spectrum.
