Hello

I am new to this site as well as a new chevy luv owner. I have a 79 4x4 in great condition with a bad 1.8 stock motor, I also have a 80 4x4 in terrible condition with a strong 1.8 stock motor. Will I have any problems just yanking bad motor and manual trans from 79 and reinstalling the 80 strong motor and manual trans. They look exactly the same.

If I understand right, I read on another thread, if I was to just use the 80 motor and install onto the 79 trans I would need to remove the trans components from the 80 motor and reinstall the 79 trans components.

I think the 80 trans is much tighter so am thinking it will be easier to yank and install as one as long as there is not some other problem Im not aware of.

Anyone with advice would be much appreciated

Thanks

clutch on the 80 is a little bit bigger but thats about it i think..other than that it's a direct swap

If I remember correctly they are identical. One improvement was the 80 had an improved clutch (slightly larger diameter). I would do the whole thing as one.

Only other difference I can think of is that the 80 4x4s had a switch on the tranny for 4WD to drive the 4WD light in the gauge cluster. Just watch what wires you hook up for the reverse light switch and coasting richer switch and leave the 4WD switch wires alone and it should be a direct swap.
