ok i took my 80 4x4 and did a spring over in the rear and cranked down the torsion bars. i wa wondering if it would be better to take my spare axle and put it bakc the way it was origanally and do a 2 in shackle and torsion lift then a 2 in boddy lift? cause i want it to look mor even and i think it might look better as long as i don't get a 3 in body lift. what do u think. matt

I think it would look more even front to back. It probably sits higher in the rear now right?

Can any one tell me what is involved in "fliping" the rear axle under the leaf springs on a 4x4. I am trying to fit 30" 9.50 tires under the truck and don't want the rear to sit lower.

I did the shackle thing on my truck. I found a set at Autozone. Here is what they look like.

And with the torsions cranked in the front to match, the truck looks like this. I was able to level the truck just fine.

it took me about 3 hours of doing it. i had pull the rear axle just all the way out. i had a car lift to do i t though so it made it easier. but i took the axle almost all the way out except for parking brake cable. then i pulled the leafs out all the way. then i grinded the welds holding the mounting plate.after all that i put the leafs bakc on sitting on top of the axle still not attached though. sat the mountings on top of the axle and put the u bolts on not tight though.set the angle of axle to the trannt with the drive shaft. after thats all done tighted the u bolts up and the weld the mountins on. it helps to have a hydrolic lift though. hope this helps

What size Shackle did you use
Summit Racing offers 2 sizes from Mr Gasket

MRG-1299 which is 7/16"
MRG-1300 which is 1/2"

And Does any one know any drawbacks to doing a shackle vs the spring over?

Doing the spring over lift will give you more ground clearance than the shackle lift due to the springs being on top of the axle rather than being underneath. Either way, the goal is to lift the frame and possibly get bigger tires underneath the truck. I hope this answers your question.
