I signed up months ago, but am finally getting to work on the '74 Luv Mikado a buddy donated to me. I don't know much about these little trucks so I have a few questions. I am going to order a manual tonight.

First question: the steering is REAL tight, almost like it should have a power steering pump. But I don't see any evidence of it having one except one small bracket just above the alternator bracket.

Also, Though the odometer and paper work show this truck may only have about 31K miles, I'm not sure the engine is original. It has a Hitachi Carb on it, it is not a cross draft head, but it has some tubes coming up out of the head/valve cover area in the carb side that have been cut off and plugged. they almost looks like where injectors would go? Not familiar with Isuzu motors enough to know.

As for parts in general, if I need to substitute on some items due to age/availability, do I look more to Chevy, or Isuzu?
Thanks for the help. I'll try to get some pics up in the near future.

It probably doesn't have power steering, most didn't, those are injector tube fittings (might not be the correct terminology) for the smog system, and stocker stuff will be more ISUZU based. Hope this helps. Welcome aboard, and the stock guys can help you a lot, just ask.

Glad to have you aboard. You can an awful lot about your "new" truck on this site. Be sure to use the Search mode. Almost any question you have can be found by searching for it on this site. Check out the classified section for parts that you may need, if no one has the part, the biggest share of us know where to find it. Want to make a conversion, to ????? just pick a thread and ask how it's done. We'll tell you, help you, inform you, and assist you thru this web site. It's just plain awesome.
Welcome aboard, and have fun with your "new" Luv truck
