here is another picture of stock exhaust I did in silver. I did not use VHT but a similar high temp paint. My can said it does not finish curing until it got above 400-500F degrees from running the engine. I have had it on a couple months and it still looks good. better than that old rusty cast iron. Eastwood catalog also has some brush on products that you could use without removing the exhaust.

Well John, I'm so sorry if you have no sense of humor, but mouthing off to me on Ben's site (or mine) is just not the right way to handle it.

Nor is running to Ben or his over-worked and underpaid staff behind my back either. (Sorry Ben)

But while we are on the subject of your new engine and your posts...how is it that you are so poor, broke, and desperate (plus you said you were deep in debt and had ran completely out of credit) that you had to go around all over asking for and accepting cash donations and free parts from everyone to replace an engine that you totally screwed up yourself...yet you seem to have plenty of money to go out and buy lots of fancy brand new expensive tools, equipment, and other stuff to show off to everyone and brag about here every day?

Quote:
I live on disability, and we have used credit to purchase almost everything. I can't keep going as it's taking all my income just to make the payments.

What is wrong with that picture. John?

But just for your information, I really don't care whether you ever get your truck running or not, how you get your tools or your parts (as long as they don't come from my garage any more), nor do I care whether you approve of what I choose to post here much either.

So when (and only when) you own this site, then you can start telling me or any other members what to do around here. So untill that day comes, maybe you should just go concentrate on trying to fix your truck, and try to comprehend that the rest of here are all mature enough members to survive seeing a grown women with her clothes on in an teeny weeny itsy-bitsy picture.

And as for your son viewing anything here...I certainly would not allow my young child to have access to a site like this that was meant for adults and that may contain content that is inappropriate for such a young man to see.

But then I never used disrepectful, derogatory, and degrading terms to describe females like "slut" around my kids when they were little either.

(That "slut" gif, just for your information, was my old avatar here for a long time....way before you ever joined.)

BTW..I don't care much for flamers and keyboard warriors at all...and I'm assuming everyone here probably do not care much for that kind of stuff either.

Therefore, I'm not going to bother much with you or your posts any more, nor do intend to get drawn into a long and ugly childish public debate all over this site with you either.

So please spare me your unwanted comments about my posts or about my wife around here from now on too.

I suggest you just do everyone here a big favor and just stop complaining to Ben, his volunteer staff, and the rest of the great members here all the time about every little thing that goes on here...and just leave me, my home, my website and it's members, my phones, my email addresses, my instant messenger accounts, and my family alone from now on...and things will be just fine.

Note: Editted by me personally out of respect for Ben, his staff, and all of the other members here. Sorry everybody, but it has just been a pretty rough week for me here in Tazland.

Geez...that really sucks dude.

Too bad someone close doesn't have a decent running used 1.8 that they can part with cheap for ya.

At least then you could get it up and running

How about it...anybody on here got a runner they can part with cheap? Anybody able to help a brother Luv-er out?

Even if it's a ways away...maybe if we link enough members together...we could pass it along to him....because we can't have a cash strapped member and his family on foot with a dead truck in his yard...can we?

If we can do this...I'm definitely in.

I'm not rich...but I'll do what I can to help.

Tazman,

That's what you said (Pg. 13 of "FullaLuv's Luv") before you started getting snotty. I never asked for a hand out. I was going to give up for awhile, and wait for an opportunity to continue working on the LUV. There was some encouragement coming my way, so I accepted it. The block I'm using was given to me by Ctmandu; not just given, but delivered all the way from Salem, OR. The engine you gave me had a lot of parts that I'm using and between the two of you I've decided to make a go of it. I want to do the best I can with it that's why I get the things I do. I suppose you'd be happier if it took me ten years to get it done.

This is all being done on credit, and I wouldn't have continued had it not been for your and others urging. The posting of the progress I've been making on the LUV and it's engine has been intended to help others, and I've received some encouraging remarks from some who've been thankful for the photos. I always respond to questions and try to give the best information I can.

That is the purpose of this website, I think. It has been a friendly environment, and one I've enjoyed. I've made some friends here and I continue to be in touch with them regularly. I have gotten one donation given to me and that came from Dottie. So far that's all I've been given in funds, which I haven't asked for. I will pay my debts, and I do pay my debts.

You've been a member here at LUVTruck.com for a lot longer than I have. I know there are those who have extended privileges that most of us don't have. I don't see where you have any more right to tell me what to do or how to do it so rest assured I will just post as usual as long as I can see that there are those who benefit and if you don't wish to visit this thread that will be your loss, not mine.

I used some of that VHT Flameproof in silver on my 2.3L motor when I put the heat stove/shield back on, but used another brand in black on the exhaust manifold. I'll have to look at the can and see what the other was. The VHT silver came out looking almost grainy or textured, very hard to get a glossy smooth finish out of it, but the other went on smooth and easy. Both seem to be tolerating the heat very well though.

Just make sure if it is going on a manifold or header that you get the high high temp rated stuff. Engine paint is usually good to about 500F, but to survive exhaust temps you need the 1200F-2k like you got there John. For paint on the manifold to stick right long term everything is in the prep work too. Sandblast if you can, wire wheel if you have to, and then clean every speck of dust off and any oil. Anything that gets trapped under that paint will turn into a bubble once you fire the motor up and get it hot. Once you get one spot where the paint doesn't stick it spreads. I actually ran my manifold through the dishwasher, just don't try that when the lady of the house is around...

As for the rest of this, personally I really don't have time to get all worried about hurt feelings or risque avatar pics. You all work it out or don't, just don't expect a whole lot of sympathy from me either way because I'm doing my best to tune it out. :)

What color do you want? Walk into a Wood Stove dealer... or get the stove paint from a hardware store... Most of those are rated for over 1200 degrees. And they really stick well, too.

Back when I still had my 85 Nighthawk 650, the exhaust needed a little attention. I used Duplicolor high heat w/ceramic rated for 1200 deg.

Looked great and for as hot as a motorcycle exhaust gets, held up realy well. Even right up to the manifolds.

I later bought a black powder coated exhaust for it, and realy could not tell the diff.

Just for the record to everyone, tumwatertaz has no idea what I'm thinking, how I feel on matters, or what goes on with the management of this site. So take his comments that include my name, with a grain of salt.

I hope I did enough prep on my exhaust manifold. I went out and bought the best I knew of. VHT Flame Proof, Very High Temperature. I want it to last, but I do admit this time around I didn't have it sandblasted. It seemed very clean though, and I tried wire brushing it and nothing came off, so I went ahead with the paint. It was shipped to me clean, so I believe somebody water blasted it or something. There was no oil on it.

As illustrated in the photo above, I also used VHT Clear, Satin Finish. Both of the paints I used, (Black & Clear), are rated up to 2000°F.

The block and all the yellow parts are using VHT Engine Enamel, rated to 550°F. Most of you haven't seen it, but the air cleaner was also done using these colors. Wait till that goes on!!

That yellow is certainly hard to miss. :P Not exactly my cup of tea, but it does look clean. If nothing else it makes good contrast on your pictures for illustrative purposes.

No problem...I've had my say on the matter, I've taken the necessary steps to deal with this matter, and for me it's over, and it's definitely time for me to move on to finding way more important things to occupy my time with.

So I think I'm just going to go put my new motor in my truck, take a few days off, and then go goof off with the wifey and my dog Ralph for a couple of days...so I'll just get my loud-mouthed annoying butt out of your hair now for a few days and let you enjoy what's left of your weekend...lol

I was clearly out of line for that comment Ben, and I would like to publically apologize to you for dragging you, this site, and your staff into my reply.

All I was trying to say was that kinda stuff just ain't cool around here...and that's all. I would never presume to speak for you or anyone else around here.

So I've cleaned up and editted my post, and that should hopefully help calm things down a bit.

As for you John....good luck on your truck. I sure hope it was all worth it.

Later everybody...'cause the Tazman is outa here for a while.

I'm with you TJ, don't know what the heck happened around here. We had this same thing happen a couple of years ago, and it took awhile for it to blow over, of which I'm sure this will also. I would like to request that pictures of these types not be allowed on this site. I was appalled when I first saw them. I do not appreciate them on this site. This site is dedicated to all Chevy Luv owners, and that even includes some girls and women. This is not a porn site. The rules specifically state "no porn". I request that these pictures be removed. They have no purpose toward this site in any way shape or form.
If people cannot act respectful to each other, PM each other, not air your filthy degradable traits on this site. I was under the impression that this site was designed to show off our Luv Trucks, and help each other with our experiences and abilities as either a certified mechanic or a backyard mechanic. Not to blow off and mouth off about something that nobody else knows about, or even care about. Showing off your bad manners, and filthy mouth is not an appreciable trait that we need to see. Have problems at home, with your spouse or any other problems? WE do not need to know about it, and for heaven sakes, don't take it out on you fellow Luv members. It's a waste of space, and a waste of our time.
I'm trying to be very careful here and not point at any particular individual(s), because you already know who you are. In short, we are for the most part, adults with a few 15 year olds. Is this the way you want your children to act around other people. All of you should grow up and act your age.
Enough said, let it alone.

Tuesday I will be getting a special pump for putting oil flow through the engine. This will also prime the oil pump. I will be doing it with the top cover off, so I'll be able to see the oil flow at the top of the cylinder head.

I am glad you benefit from my photos, and that is my sole intention, to show others the things that I did not understand before. If there are any particular photos of the LUV any of you want, just let me know and I'll be glad to send you them if I have them. If I need to find the part and photograph it I will if it doesn't require major disassembly.

If there are any photos of the engine anyone wants you should let me know while I have it out. I'm going to take some later that will be wallpaper-worthy! (Maybe that's just for me!)
