Did you bend the top part of the A bracket to make the mirror mount on a horizontal surface?

I have the same (basically) mirrors on both my trucks, and they were (before me) mounted wrong. I am not ready to make more holes in my trucks' doors so I have just left them alone.
On mine where the mirror mounts to the arm, the arm is coming from the door on an UP angle. I hate it and need to fix it.

Yours comes off at an up angle and then bends to be level and the bottom part is mounted much lower on the door.

Yes, they did not conform perfectly to the shape of the door, and so the chrome brackets were bent to fit the door and not put any stress on the door sheet metal. They were in my vise and just bent by hand. A hand towel went over the chrome to prevent scratching.

The placement was determined for that very reason, I didn't want more holes in the door, so the first hole went in where the stock mirror was mounted. The second stock hole got covered up and a new hole was made forward of it. The bottom two holes went in where the bracket landed. The right-side mirror was placed to match the left side.

Looks great, huh? I think mine is not much lower, but the lower placement gave the level arm location, so if you want to match it, you'll need to bondo the holes and redo it about ¾" lower. Maybe open the bracket a little, and then bend the mounts to fit the door's contour.

Your trucks look super. I like the way the wheels are, and I might redo mine to have yellow around the hubcaps. If your truck and my truck got together we better keep an eye out; they got so much in common they might end up copulatin'!!

Ron's beauty rings look like they are reflecting the sky to match the truck color, looks sweet 8)
Hey, i saw these rubber expanding nuts at home depot while shopping for my carb to cleaner adapter and they look like they might work for mirror placement, anyone have any experience with these?
They are the ones that look like a little rubber tube with a nut bonded at the bottom. looks like a rubber rivet or cherry mac or pop rivet. Soo you stick the plug side first into the blind hole and as you turn the bolt the nuts pulls the butt of the rubber against the mirror base and should hold right?? gonna try these i think. Cheaper than the $90 thing fullaluv used, even tho that looked so sweet.

Steel should last longer than rubber.

Thanks. Those rings are made of plastic and up close are showing their age already. Bummer part is they were on the truck when I bought it and I don't know ( and haven't looked) where to get new ones.

I was at kragen today and saw some 14'' chrome rings. I'm pretty sure they should have them down your way.

Sorry Fulla. Didn't mean to jack your thread. I guss I'll borrow a little of it.

The blue one, my 19 y.o. son drives 50 miles a day to and from work.
The white one is for my 17 y.o. son, but we have not cut him loose on the driving public just yet. So I drive the white one here and there when I feel like it. Thanks.

It's all good Ron. Thanks for the observation! In the Fullanews today, I went and got my own ½" drive rachet and a 24mm socket as well as a set of metric sockets and a 6" extension. All Craftsman. I also got a scribe set from Harbor Freight, and a spot weld remover from Tool Town. I'd been borrowing the rachet from my neighbor, and finally gave it back, but I need it to turn the engine over when I adjust the valves. 24mm fits the crankshaft pulley nut. The scribe set is to make it easy to remove the clip behind a window crank. The spot weld remover is to work on a section of the bed that I have a piece to replace. It's the right-rear corner. I got the piece given to me, and I have to learn to use the remover and dismantle both corners, then weld the good one on.

I have things coming from eBay. One, the set of mirrors for the LUV that I don't even want now! Two, a new stock camshaft. Three, a set of hoses and belts.

I thought about dropping in a new camshaft. I think I should polish it up first with some emery paper, any one got some words of advice on this? If you recall, the pin floated over to the sprocket, and would not turn the camshaft until it was pushed back in. This also stopped the engine! I have a feeling that it could happen again, so I thought a new camshaft would be a wise move. No I didn't ask first. That's open for discussion now.

if that pin floats to the sprocket and out of the shaft it can damage the valves and pistons, that what happened to my sons it died and he couldn't get it started for ever it seamed had fuel spark no vacuum leaks come to find out it was the sprocket that sheared the pin off the cam

I remember that happening, and your consternation over the event. When it happened to me, the engine just stopped, and when some troubleshooting was done, we found the pin not sheared off, but slid into the sprocket. Pushed it back in, and the same thing happened. Second time around, I took the camshaft all the way out and pounded the pin back in. It's been running ever since. I think I'd like to put a new one in though.

What should I do with a new one? Should it be polished up, and then ran carefully the first 500 or so miles? Any words of advice on breaking in a new one, or maybe I should go with a camshaft like yours, Catman. Where would I get one like yours, and what do I need along with it, like new springs or what?

mine is a mild cam but you should use stronger springs but i didn't... if your truck just stop it could still cause damage even thought the cam stoped the pistons probably made a couple turns before stopping, so it you put the new cam in check the valves and you should pull the head and check the top of the pistons to just play it safe... just my 2 cents worth, there may or may not be any damage but still run ok

I just called Pacific Auto Machine, and they told me that there need not be any special break-in, nor any buffing the camshaft prior to installing. They did mention the tightening of the head bolts, and they also told me of procedure I hadn't been aware of. They said to back off on the bolts one at a time, as I retorque. This is to avoid extra stress that may be caused by any binding on the bolt. Just back off about ¾ of a turn and then torque.

The reason no break-in is required, is the oil pressure has already been confirmed to be good. However, idling for a long period is to be avoided, as the oil pressure is low with low RPM, and oil does not go to the camshaft in large enough quantities.

okay, ive had enough of this.

where are you getting all this money to buy brand new craftsman tools, stuff from ebay and engine pullers?!

i thought you were hard for money. thats why you have a truck right now thats build from other peoples parts that they were generous enough to give you.

and how is it that your so able to work on this truck, but yet disabled enough to not get a job? huh?

I, and others, see what your doin and were not likin it.

thats all i have to say right now, but im sure that theres others that are gonna have a few words with you.

just to let you know...

what goes around comes around!

My credit is good and I pay my bills on time. I could work, but the problem is finding a job that I want where I can make enough money to maintain the payments we need to make and still raise a son at the same time. I could go into greater detail, but the outburst you've presented is a personal attack, and you should keep it personal and private. Farmer Joe, I thought we all agreed on the intent of this website, and I don't see where sharing success with restoration of a LUV has to be upsetting to you. You're way ahead of me anyway.

Did I forget to mention I sold the engine hoist? Whoops sorry.

Sorry FullaLuv but I too had the same thoughts as I am sure many others have. I have to say Farmer was not too far out of line in my opinion.

Well, I for one think you are both out of line!!! Where does it say, you have a right to know where and how, he's getting his parts, tools, etc. We are all, (or so I thought) kids at heart and luv to share our successes, especially when it comes to our trucks. If that's not true, why are you sharing your stories, purchases and finds, and pictures on LT. Or is it maybe, just maybe you guys, ("a lot of others feel the same way") feel that not all of us should succeed, just a few of the others or chosen few in LT. Maybe, just maybe as a kid John didn't or couldn't afford any the items that apparently most of you have in your garage. Maybe they are hand me downs, but nobody has said anything against you for that have they? Nobody complained when you bought your fancy wheels, or electronic dizzies, did they? I cannot believe that you people are so envious and jealous of someone who get's what he wants, no matter what. If he wants to buy something for his his truck or his family, does he have to ask your permission? How he buys it and pays for it is his business not yours! Because the two of you make it sound like he should? I didn't know a financial report was required when joining LUV Truck.com. Grow up and let him build his truck and take care of his family his way, not yours!

I think enough has been said, now please drop it.

Nobody said anything about my parts or truck because I never accepted money or parts from members. I sent some money for a guy we thought was hard on his luck as well as other members, but turns out he can afford much more. With that I shall take a long break from this site, I am very unhappy with what is going on.
