Is there only one type of distributor that came on 79 Luvs? I am having trouble finding a cap to fit mine. The one that is on there now has no #'s on it, and my local NAPA is no help. The cap that NAPA says is for a LUV doesnt fit the distributor. There is a red sticker on the side of the distributor, that says nippondensoco, LTD. It does have an ISUZU logo on it with the #'s 8942099010, and there is another #029100-4190. I've tried to look up the numbers but have had no luck. I was told by a friend of mine that it is from an ISUZU IMPULSE. Any Ideas?

If the cap uses screws to hold it in place it is an electronic distributor.

Have you tried advanceauto or autozone. They carry caps for original distributors. I personally don't know if they work or not because when I got my luv I found a electronic distributor and put it in.

Hey FullaLuv, I will try to get a picture posted this afternoon. The distributor in your photo is just like mine, except my sticker is bright metallic red.

sometimes if you haven't changed a cap in awhile, you forget about the notched part in the cap and distributor that align up, if it was the right part.

Stams, I just put a new cap on mine and I know it's the original distributer. I bought it from NAPA and will get the # off the box after work and post it for ya.

Thanks for all the advice. On the cap that NAPA says is the right one, the clips do not reach the notches to secure it. on the cap I have now the bottom of the cap to the notch is only 3/4". Also, it doesnt use the NAPA rotor that is called for. The cap I have now is fine, but I would like to have a spare.

My book shows # 0291004190 to be for a 79 Luv 2 wheel drive, federal emissions.

You might have to just take the cap off and walk into napa with it to compare until they get it right. Label the plug wires with some tape at the cap, drive to the store, pop it off, and tell em you want one just like it. I can't think of another distributor that fits in the luv motor besides the newer electronic ignition style one, so if you figure out what cap fits, get them to tell you what it came off of.

More than likely, the napa clerk you are dealing with is getting it wrong, or their computer is kicking out the wrong part number.

We should revive this post and get it updated:

http://forums.luvtruck.com/viewtopic.php?t=6582

According to rockauto.com the cap is:
ACDELCO part#: E359
Beck/Arnley: #1740802

The pics on RA look right, you could try giving napa those parts and see what you get.

It is possible that someone put a cap and rotor on your distributor that work together but are not exactly right for the truck. Those clips are tough to get on normally, so if it basically fits but is just too hard to get clipped that is something to consider. pics of the cap, rotor, and disti with them removed might help.
