My emergency flashers don't work anymore? Could it be the switch on the steering column? Could it be the flasher unit itself, if so where the hell is it located. At the same time, my horns don't work. Yes, before you asked, I checked the fuses. They are ok. Could it be a broken wire, or what? Help

Dan, you probably already know this, but the fuse block is notorious for corrosion and not working. I had it out with mine already, and I feel it won't be the last time. I cleaned each terminal carefully and even had to solder one that broke. There was a post I saw earlier this morning actually, that gives a link to some reasonably priced replacement fuse blocks as well as other electrical stuff. http://www.wiringproducts.com It was posted by Luvstruck on the Stock Trucks>fuse block thread. :)

It would be good to have a buddy work the horn while you wiggle the wires. Maybe the wifey will do. Or if the wifey won't, turn the flashers on and wiggle away. :D

thanks, John and Cat, It's suppose to get in the low 50's this Sat. I'll be working on my truck and will definitely check those suggestions out.

Could be a coincidence and the two are not related, that horn relay (if you have the mikado duals) has a tendancy to get fussy as does the contact on the wheel. The flasher unit is up under the dash on the right side of the steering column. There should be two of them and the e-flasher unit is the one with two wires going into it. Getting them out is a trick though, my 77 still has both the stock ones bolted in there with generic replacements stuck in next to them.

I have the extra two flashers too! They must have been fixed at one time.

Yeah, those flashers are in a weird spot. I just connected a new one for turn signals and taped it up in there with electrical tape rather than trying to get the old on out...

The easiest way to change them is to remove the instrument panel. To help remove the instrument panel you should go into the engine bay and unbolt the speedometer cable from the master brake cylinder so you can pull it with the instrument panel from the dash then you can unplug the speedometer cable and the wiring harness. Then you have easy access to the relays.
