If you put in a early 70's engine or a later isuzu engine in it.

The 76 and later engine heads have a boss for a mechanical pump, but it is solid and not an open hole, it was cast closed. Some later isuzu engines must have used a mechanical pump, as I have seen some heads with this open for pump. But you would also need the eccentric that must bolt on the camshaft at the timing gear to run the pump. I think I would trace the electrical problem out before I went that route. :?

Also on the electric fuel pump.... You need to realize before tearing wiring out that the fuel pump only runs when ignition switch is cranking engine and when engine starts. The pump voltage is controlled by the charging system via relays. If the engine is not running no voltage will be present at pump....This is very important to know before troubleshooting.

So..You should have Positive 12 volts at pump when: 1. cranking over with starter. 2. engine running, (alternator charging).

If you just turn ignition switch on and don't have engine running, there will be no voltage at pump.

I just when through trouble shooting this. the fuel pump relay is behind the sheetmetal box near the windshield washer bottle. there is a wiring diagram in the information section of this forum. I printed it on 11x17" paper. with the wiring diagram and volt meter you should be able to track your problem down.
