okay, bear with me for another thread.
alright. to start off im gonna tell everyone what parts i have.
right now in the truck is a 1984 impulse engine with about 90k on it. it has stock flattop pistons, and thats about it. it also has a stock impulse G200 head. nothin special about it. it just goes with the motor.
in the garage is a 1977 G180 head with 8 bent valves. it has the stock valvetrain in it also. the head is going to get 8 new valves and probably guides also. might even get ported.
okay, now the questions about the 1977 head.
are the valves in it smaller than the G200 head?
can lager valves be put in this head?
will valvetrain parts like rockers and rocker tubes interchange from the G200 head to the G180?
what id like to do is put the rebuilt g180 head on the rebuilt impulse G200 bottom end, and have a little compression motor. id also like to run the rockers and tubes from the G200 head on the G180 head. the G180 rockers look alot weaker than the G200 pieces. id also like to be able to rev this engine to at least 6000rpms safley. now thats going to to be more cam right there.
now questions about the assembly of the motor.
are there any problems i might run into with the timing components? ie: ending up with too much or not enough slack in the timing chain.
i already know that the coolant passages are going to be fine. the motor that was in the pup when i got it was a G180/200 hybrid. its had a G180 bottom end with a G200 head. it ran fine and cooled fine also. i also have a G180/200 in my luv. runs fine, cools fine. not worried about that.
also. what kind of compression will i be looking at when i get this together? the stock impulse motor has 9.2:1 compression. a G200 with dish pistons has 8:1. a G180 head on a non-impulse G200 makes around 10:1 right? so on a 9.2:1 bottom end, i should be lookin at about 11-11.5:1 comp?
if it does turn out to be a high compression number like that, what kind of cam specs am i goin to be lookin at?
id like to finally know the ins an outs of the hybrid G seires engine. theres been alot of i dont knows about them on here, so id like to finally get all the info straightened out and have some useful info that could be used later.
