Got a bad story for y'all. Yesterday I was driving my 80 shortbed around to scope out a Trans Am I'm considering, and on the way back I slammed into a 15 passenger van. I didn't see that it was stopped until it was too late. I'm not sure the brake lights were working and I KNOW there was no turn signal blinking. Here's the damage.

I'm fine, but quite sore in my chest and back. I'm gonna salvage what I can for my 79 longbed and make a trailer out of the rear. I'm also gonna try to save the drivetrain since it WAS running almost perfect until the wreck! Dumb ol blonde girl drivin that van too! Here's a pic of the motor now.

I'll be savin as much of this as I can, so don't worry too much Tilted. Unfortunately, sometimes a few do have to be sacrificed for the continued health of the many. I will be gettin another LUV to go with my longbed so don't think I'm out of the LUV community for a minute! I would just like to own more than one, and I know where a few are around these parts!

That's a heartbreaker right there :( . I'm glad to see that you're got a fairly good attitude about it. Already got a game plan with all kinds of parts.
You could sell a ton of specific parts like the clutch pedal, steering box, glass, door locks and such.

Sorry about the accident, and glad you're ok. Have you thought about taking the front end off the long bed and putting it on your truck? It looks pretty bad now, but might look a little better once you pull all the bad stuff off. Good luck with it.

That looks like a bad one....but it looks like your truck gave it's all and saved your butt pretty well.

Glad to hear you weren't hurt!

And I think it's great that you have already decided to just move on, put it all behind, and quickly put another Luv on the road.

Because...one man's wreck and source of misery is just another man's personal parts supply and utility trailer....and that just what we need more of around here...a Luv-er with an optimistic attitude!

OMG wow! BAM, I'm glad you didn't go to heaven with the LUV. Not saying I wished you went to hell, oh no. I hope you get something for the accident, but rear ending as we all know is automatically your fault. I had an accident like that once but not nearly as severe when someone turned left in front of me as I was passing them. They also did not signal, but it's very hard to prove. We should all print the picture you gave us and use it as a reminder of what can happen if you don't keep your eyes on the road!!! Shocking photo!

Tough lookin at your picture bro. I think a trailer is a good idea I have one and it stretches the utility of your truck by quite a bit. Mabey a tilt up box like tilted has. glad to see your OK

The only reason I'm not taking the front clip from the longbed to fix this truck is that I actually had plans to fully restore it before I found this gray truck. I've got lots of parts from a rusted out longbed that I got from my church pastor in the longbed truck I'm trying to get back on the road. It has far more sentimental value than this wrecked one did. But I will tell you that the man who's name was on the title before I bought it, well, he and his wife took that truck there on their honeymoon in 1985! I thought that was cool and it was my motivation for keeping 2 LUV's even though I can only afford to restore one. So now the only choice that makes any sense is to restore the longbed that would have been finished if I hadn't found this truck on e-bay a year and a half ago.

The truck did it's job and took most of the impact and saved the driver. Glad to see you are in as good of spirits as you can be about it. Was it insured? If so I wonder how much the insurance company will give you. I am afraid if my LUV gets totaled the hassle State Farm will give me on the upgrades.

Hey Karl, have you talked to your agent about your truck??? My original agent retired a couple of years ago and when I went to talk to the new agent I asked him about that very subject. All I had to do was give them pictures of the truck as I have it now, copies of receipts and estimates of the stuff I didnt have the reciepts on and now my truck is covered for about $14,000 instead of the couple of grand I would have gotten for blue book. My payment went about about $5 a year. I asked why it didnt go up that much and they said they know that people with that kind of extra into thier vehicles arent going to take better care of them and drive them better and less often. So I did the same with the S10. We sat there for about an hour talking about my trucks and they were really impressed with them.
Forgot to mention, I have State Farm too.

My wife is my State Farm agent, she owns a franchise. I would say we speak allot about our insurance needs. Something tells me she has it insured for a good value since it is registered as a company vehicle.
