Put a new weber on my 79 luv and have had nothing but trouble with it icing up in the throttle body. Have made several makeshift things to get heat from the manifold to the air cleaner with no success. Can only go a few miles and then have to pull over and let it deice, also getting horrible mileage due to constantly pumping the gas to her. VERY FRUSTRATING.

Anyone have any McGuyver ideas ???????????

Thanks

LA

I've never had any problems with icing on my weber, but the climate here is fairly mild. Depending on the temps/conditions in your area it might indicate some other problem going on, just a thought. What sort of temps are you running in right now?

As for fixes, you can get an adapter that bolts to the top of the weber to accept a round hole air cleaner, like say the stock one. Then you can hook up the hot air deal from the heat stove over the exhaust manifold. That would look clean and should clear up the problem.

The other thing to think about is the joint from the carb to the intake. If you left the black plastic spacer in there below the weber adapter, that would insulate the carb from getting heated by the intake manifold. Taking that out and using nice and thin gaskets might help the carb stay warm.

thw weber on my black truck is doin the same thing. i live out of town so to go to work im instantly on a hiway. so the truck has no time to warm up fully. when i get off the hiway to go into town the carb is frozen and it runs like a turn. i have to baby it to keep it runnin untill it warms up the intake.

the temp around here dont help either. we only get highs of like 38* and have lows of like 20*.

id like to have it not do this anymore, cuz just like he said, it sucks gas real bad, and it just strait up pisses me off.

I also put a Weber on my '79. I started by taking ALL the smog stuff off, including the pipe that runs from the exhaust manifold, behind the engine, and up under the stock manifold.
That's when mine started icing up. I reconnected that pipe, and haven't had a single problem since (6 years). That Weber is the best!

I am at the base of Mt Rainier, Temps have been between 25 and 40. I do not have a plastic spacer between the carb and manifold. All the smog stuff had been removed prior to my purchase. I ordered the adapter for the stock air filter assembly and will try that. The motor does not have a heat shield on it that mounts to the exaust manifold. Does anyone know where I can find one of those. Also, does the vacuum line from the air cleaner housing need to be hooked up and if so where???

I have problems like that every now and then as well. Its all solved if you just let it warm up fully though. I end up letting it run for about 10-15minuets every morning...
