i had questions regarding timing marks for a head gasket job. thanks to you all that helped; mainly, keeping the timing chain in place on the top sprocket. the head pulls up, over the chain and sprocket, like i hoped. i replaced the head (my stuff is all stock, except the carb, a weber) with a head from another engine. i knew the replacement was better than the one that i blew the gasket on, and i "dry-fitted" the replacement before torquing with the new gasket in place. with the "dry-fit" (with no gasket), i got about .008-in on one corner by rocking the head. we went ahead anyway, 'cause we didn't have $100.00 (i'm guessing, to start) with milling the head at a shop before putting it on the block. torqued to total 75 ft-lbs. (specs call for 72, but didn't really trust the wrench). it feels like i have more compression than before, but it may be all in my head...i don't think so.
i know, i know; post pics, already. i guess i need to figure out how to do that.
