Stays started? Do you mean that the motor runs at a smooth idle or does it "diesel" (erratic chugging)? If it's running at a smooth idle, i would first look at the ignition switch. If it's erattic chugging, the timing is too far advanced. If the timing checks out to be set to factory specs, then you most likely have massive carbon buildup in the cylinders. The carbon will heat up to the point that it will ignite the fuel. So even without spark, the fuel mixture has a way to ignite.
If you could go into more detail, it would be easier to figure out whats wrong.
