Find a custom motorcycle shop in your area and have a new cable made up. It should'nt cost much and it will look, fit, and work like an original cable.
I did just that and i haven't thought about it since. The mechanic/owner of the motorcycle shop bitched and moaned about how so many people come in for cable assy's that DONT apply to bikes. It was funny as hell to listen to him.

Good idea...actually, I have a NOS Chevy Luv hood release cable still in the Chevy packaging. I just need to find out if this will fit my 1980 Chevy Luv as a backup. Anyone know the part number for an '80 Luv? Thanks!

Looks like 94020861. Should fit 1972 through 1980 model trucks according to the parts manual.
