Are Gabriel shocks ok? I need a new set on the rear of my 80 Luv and that is all the local parts house carry in stock. I only drove my pickup on the weekends so I just need some that are functional. What do you think? Any suggestions? Thanks!

I've used them on my old daily S-10 with no problems. I would assume that for an average daily driver, non track vehicle, they should be fine. I doubt they last long in lowered situations, but who knows. Perhaps someone with more insight than me will chime in.

I don't think brand name would matter much. I would make sure you are buying a gas shock not a hydrolic / oil shock. Gas shock perform better.

Honestly, there are only two shock manufacters around, Gabriel and Monroe. Everything is just rebadged products from one of those two. That said, all the guys that i know who build seriousl off road vehicls swear by the Gabriel Gas Riders. Cheap and effective...

Do you mean like standard shocks? I'm pretty sure Bilstein and Koni (maybe not that latter) build their own. Am I wrong?

I just put Gabriel shocks on my LUV this summer. I still had the original (from 1980) Isuzu shocks on mine, so needless to say the Gabriels were a step up. I like mine alot, but then again I basically had no shocks left at all when I put mine on. I didn't get the cheapest Gabriels or the most expensive either. I'm pretty sure they're Gabriel Ultras.

Thanks for the input...I will go ahead and purchase the Gabriel shocks then. Like some of you..my 80 Luv has the original rear shocks so anything would be a nice stepup...:)

I just put Gabriel Guardians all around my '80 and they really improved the the ride. My old ones were so bad in the front that when you extended them they just fell back down and klunked. Nothing left to them at all. The guardians are the base shock and were like 16 bucks each
