i just rebuilt my engine. while i had it apart i put in a new clutch and pressure plate. now, it's been a while since i drove it "2 years" but i don't remember it being at 2500 rpms at 45 mph in 4th gear. any idea's? has this ever happened to anyone. or is that normal? i'm at a loss. oh and i've tried adjusting my clutch. it's a cable clutch. any help would be awsome. thanks in advance

That sounds right to me.

A slipping clutch will let the engine rev at various RPMs with the truck in gear and the pedal all the way up.

You've been driving a V8 too long to remember the familiar sound of an Isuzu engine all wound up.

dkay, I've got a question about what you just said.

I gotta tell ya, that at 4000 rpm, I'm starting to wonder if this little motor is gonna stay together. I know I'm in a tin can, no carpet, so the noise is exacerbated, but does this sound "kinda normal"?

Last vehicle I pushed to 6k was a 'Vette. It was a deep roar thru the headers, but this little thing sounds like a blender.

I used to dump the clutch at 6K. With only a tonneau cover on the back it would sit and spin for quite a bit.

My Series 9 shop manual has the HP rated at 80HP @ 4800 RPM and torque at 95 lb-ft @ 3000 RPM.

They do not list redline or maximum RPM, just where they took their measurements.

Code:
                                       RPM * 60
Travel Speed =  ------------------------------------------------
Tire Revs per Mile * Gear Ratio

If you have a 4x4 with 185/75R14 tires they rotate 834.34 times per mile.

You were curious about 2500 RPMs...

2500 * 60 = 150,000
834.34 * 4.10 = 3420.794

150,000 / 3420.794 = 43.8 MPH

If you have a 2WD with 3.73 gears it would be: 48.2 MPG. Watch out for cops if you are using the stock speedometer gears.

So, 2500 is perfectly normal for goin' about 45 MPH.

I prefer to run 205/65R15's on my 4x4 which would put me at about: 44.8 MPH since they rotate 816.01 revolutions per mile. No chance of me getting a ticket reading the stock speedometer.
