So I bought this pickup for next to nothing... it had some majorly hacked up wiring done to it. I was having running issues, so in attempt to eliminate variables I bought a new harness and swapped it out.

There's two plugs left and as the truck sits now it doesn't do anything when you turn the key. No power to anything what so ever.

Here's a couple plugs that we couldn’t find a home for. Anyone have any input as to where these plugs go?

They are both located under the steering column.

I'll run out back shortly and see if I can match up your plugs, but another question is: Where did you get your harness, and was it new or a used one? My son is having electrical issues and really needs a whole harness for his '78.

I bought it from a wrecking yard....

EVERYTHING but these two plugs were a direct swap.

That might make sense... I don't have any plugs up near where the stereo goes.

The four hole female is for a radio option, and the two hole female is for an extra speaker.

Few other questions...

This is behind the air cleaner on the firewall

Image

I was told I probably don't have any power because there's no juice going to the fuse box. The + battery cable goes straight to the starter, but there should be another wire that comes off the + terminal somewhere and goes into the fuse box. There's no place for it to connect to.
(ignore the yellow wire)
Image

This is on the main harness and is right behind where the stereo would be. May even be stereo related for all I know. The truck didnt come with one.

Image

Also both my volt regulators have a blue wire coming off them. Not sure where it goes.

Image

Thanks

yes that one is for the stereo and keep in mind that not all wires on these little trucks are used. well at least not on my truck.i've got a few empty plugs on mine and it came that way from the factory.

The harness power wire should come out of the bundle on the passenger side inner fender near the battery. Trace back from the passenger side headlight and you'll have the right bundle. It should be about the biggest wire in the bundle, and it goes across the firewall, dips inside the cab then back out, and ends up at the alternator. If the big black wire on the alt has 12v on it, you are set, but if not then you've found the problem. It should be hot no matter what as long as the battery cable is on.

So, check the big wire at the alt for power. If you find it dead, start looking hard at the harness on the passenger fender for a wire the same size. It should plug into a two wire fusible link deal, but for starters just get it hooked up to the + side of the bat.

Oh yeah, the blue wire on the regulator is for a capacitor that is supposed to filter out alternator noise from bleeding onto the radio.

The first one, the four slot one, looks sort of like the connector that went down to the auto tranny shifter on my 77, but it could very well be the radio plug. I'm used to using the single blue wire that is usually hiding against the harness unused right below to the radio.

The two slot connector might be for the seatbelt buzzer.

And again, just to be clear, if all that goes to your battery + post is the fat cable to the starter, you will have a completely dead electrical system.

So there's not a direct source for power from the battery to the fuse box?

Where does the fuse box get it's power from?

Yes there is a power lead at the battery to the fuse box. There should be a 2 wire connector with fuse links that attaches to the positive battery terminal. The harness should have that right around the battery area.

I've replaced the battery terminals... So there ya go (or I go rather).

I haven't see anything like you are talking about however.

This something I could hardwire in?

Download the wiring diagram for your year truck from the information section

http://www.luvtruck.com/PDF/Series9&10.pdf

There should be a 2 wire connector on the harness that runs to the right side headlights. This is were the fuse links connect to the harness and tie to the battery terminal. One of the fuse linked wires goes to the fuse box, regulator and light switch. The other wire goes to the ignition switch and other system functions that require battery power.

Hmmm, found this guy hiding out right near the battery. Two black wires. Sounds like that's what you are talking about

That's were the fuse links connect to the battery. Be sure that you have some kind of fuse there to insure that you dont fry the harness.

No we're getting somewhere...

So both of those of the wires on those connectors need to go to the battery, yes?

So just grab a couple fusable links and plug them into +....

Image

I cant read what size I need.

Actaully, maybe that connector is in with the pile of other harness. Maybe I'm lucky today.
